Lowell is a city in Middlesex County with a population around 115,000 residents as of the 2020 census. As the second largest city in Massachusetts Lowell was founded in 1826 as a mill town. Lowell is filled with converted factory buildings, cobblestone roads, and rail trail that goes right along the Merrimack River. And it offers plenty of activities right on the river with markets and boating.

Community

Lowell has a rich history, rooted in the industrial revolution.  Cobblestone streets weave in between towering brick mill buildings next to canals that have been converted into anything you can imagine. It is also home of two minor league sports teams: The Lowell Spinners (baseball) and the Lowell Devils (Hockey).

Lowell is a college town as well. Home to the University of Massachusetts, Lowell and Middlesex Community College.

Lowell can be reached by car from Interstate 495, U.S. Route 3, and the Lowell Connector.

For public transit, Lowell is served by the Lowell Regional Transit Authority (LRTA), which provides fixed route bus and transit services to the city and surrounding area.

Lowell is also served by the MBTA's commuter rail Lowell Line, with several departures daily to and from Boston's North Station.
